COVID POLICY: The COVID-19 pandemic is a complex, challenging, and fluid situation, which continues to evolve, and Leap is prepared to do our part to protect the health of our students, as well as our friends, families, and neighbors.

To keep safe, everyone (parents and dancers) must wear a clean and well-fitting mask at all times while inside Leap’s locations. Students will be allowed to take down their masks when properly socially distanced for quick water breaks, otherwise, masks will need to stay on for the duration of the class. We ask each dancer to bring their own no-spill water bottle and either wash hands before and after class or use hand sanitizer.

Do not come to class if you or someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days, are under quarantine, or experiencing COVID symptoms. If a dancer tests positive for COVID please contact Leap’s office immediately. When a dancer or instructor tests positive, Leap will notify families who were in close contact and promptly begin a 10-day quarantine, where classes will be held over Zoom. Further information on Zoom classes will be given if quarantine occurs.

Isolation Policy:
The CDC recently changed isolation guidance from 10 to 5 days with an additional 5 days of masking while around others. HOWEVER, we will continue to require a 10-day isolation period starting the first day that symptoms are present. There are a few reasons that a 5-day isolation won’t work for our dance program:
  • It is hard for the dancers to maintain social distancing during the entire class. We try to distance the dancers, but at times they will be closer than 6 feet due to the nature of dance.
  • Some children have difficulty wearing masks effectively.
  • We teach many children under the age of 5 who cannot yet be vaccinated. They do not have the extra protection of vaccination and COVID 19 could spread easily in this environment.

Note: A PCR test IS NOT required to return to dance as long the 10-day isolation has been followed. COVID is no longer contagious after 10 days, but trace amounts can cause a positive result.

Leap teachers are working to maintain six feet of distance between students, however, there are moments in class where students may only be 2-3 feet apart from each other for a few minutes at a time. After a year of dancing virtually we do not want to restrain the children to a box. We will be moving across the floor, allowing free form dances (dance freeze, dollies in the dark, etc.), and conducting a “regular dance class." We will do our best to keep children distanced and will be disinfecting the ballet barres after each use.

Our younger students may need a teacher's assistance with shoe tying and mask adjustments if their parent or guardian is unavailable. Our older ballerinas may need close hands-on teacher guidance to help with their safety, growth, and proficiency in pointe movement. If you feel uncomfortable with vaccinated teachers assisting hands-on, please let us know, as our main goal is to keep our students safe while in an encouraging dance atmosphere. If we do not hear from you, we assume you approve of Leap’s mask and hands-on assistance policy.

Zoom Tips for Dance Class

Below are some helpful hints for our virtual classes over Zoom. Your child's teacher will explain these items during the first online class and give a refresher during the 2nd class.
  • Please do NOT join earlier than 5 minutes before class time, or you will interrupt someone else's class.
  • Parents of young children, stay nearby to help your child get settled.
  • Be on a computer if possible (vs. a tablet or a phone).
  • "Rename" your child on Zoom by scrolling over your picture, clicking the three dots and hitting "Rename." If you are on a tablet, touch the screen and then click the "Participants" button and touch on your name.
  • Make sure your child is not backlit, so we can see them.

YES PLEASE, to dancers being frontlit.

  • Call Leap's office (720-335-5327) if you are having technical difficulties during business hours (Monday-Friday 10am-5pm).
  • Test these features beforehand by having a fun family Zoom call!
  • Leap's teachers will teach these instructions during the first class. We all learn differently, so hopefully it helps to have written instructions with images.
